Grupo Diestra is currently comprised of 17 hotels located throughout the most iconic destinations of Mexico, which are divided under the brands of Emporio Hotels & Resorts, Samba Vallarta by Emporio, Camino Real Airport CDMX, several franchises of Marriott International (JW Marriott, Renaissance, Marriott) and coming soon a Grand Hyatt Cancun.
Dissatisfied, rebellious, visionary and hard-working, migrants cast off their attachments to rebuild themselves somewhere else. Like a tree that, transplanted to new soil, able to bear more fruit.
One of the most characteristic features of a migrant is their ability to see beyond the horizon, reaching the signs and calls of their time. It can be said that, more than a place, the vision of the migrant manages to focus on the present, honing in on the needs and opportunities that give the perception of a historical moment that will purport and build tomorrow’s future.
For Diestra's founder, this characteristic is paradoxically clear and meaningful, since Constantino Díaz García, who from a very young age had sight issues which ended up leading to blindness. Today he is remembered and recognized for his great vision.
This Spanish master and farmer knew from a very young age that his homeland, Torre de Babia, wasn’t the right place for him to cultivate his dreams, and imagined that he could find fertile land to grow them in America.
He arrived in Mexico in 1927 without any luggage, just determination and values. Although he arrived gravely ill after his long journey by sea, there was no human power that could convince him to turn back.
His results which exceeded those of the most efficient salesman at the time (in his first job he was a sewing machine salesman), became the foundation of his first company, Casa Díaz, founded in 1930, which today is a reference for the clothing industry in Mexico and Latin America.
He also realized that during and after the war, Americans would travel to Europe and Asia very infrequently. He recognized the opportunity to showcase Mexico as a tourist destination. This is how the idea of building the Emporio Reforma Hotel in Mexico City came about, his first hotel, and one with a fascinating history.
Diestra grew and came to be recognized, not only for the way it grew its own brands, but also because of the way it became an extraordinary operator and developer of one of the most important franchises in the hotel industry. Together with the new generations, an unusual synergy was achieved between Casa Díaz and the hotel business. This allowed Diestra to grow from 345 rooms to over 4,000 in a period of fifteen years (2003 - 2018).
The social and human commitment of the company and its ability to build meaningful relationships not only with its team members, partners and customers, but also with society itself, are grounded on the values that inspired its history, but also on a deep sense of gratitude and love for Mexico, for those who believed in a visionary and life itself.
